May 22nd
Today in my mentoring session, I sat down with my mentor, Justin and I cut down my monologue in order for me to know the duration of my monologue and by doing this I can now move forward with learning my lines and developing my monologue and characterisation.
In the scene there is a female solo performance of a song called 'What a friend we have in Jesus', we talked about me singing the first verse or playing the song and just singing the last few lines before starting my monologue. However in the end we cut that part out as well but that might change as time goes and we build up the performance.
We discussed the language used within the script by the playwright and because it has a Caribbean back ground and I'm Caribbean I said usually speaking in patois is normal to me but when I read it of paper I find it a bit unusual. So as I'm learning my lines it should feel more natural as time goes on because I would know the script so it would flow better.
